2048 Desktop is a new version of the popular game 2048.
2048 Desktop is a version of 2048 which can be played on computers newer than Windows XP where the game originally made its debut. In the game 2048, players must merge together numbered tiles to make higher numbered tiles. Eventually, players will fill the screen with tiles that can't be merged or will reach the number 2048 in one tile. Merging tiles becomes progressively more difficult as the higher the numbers which are involved the harder it is to merge them because they must merge with numbers that are the same.
2048 Desktop also features an auto-save function which is great for players to keep working toward the goal of the 2048 tile. 2048 is a single player game which can be played offline; however, scores can be compared online to see who has the top score in the game.
There are many variations on the game including one, which touts itself as being for girls. In that version, an upgrade of the basic game to Puzzle Girls Choice adds kittens to the game. Merge tiles with kittens, cats, lynx, cheetah, leopard, lion, tiger, and Grumpy Cat Internet character. The Girls Choice edition is a little darker than the standard shades of orange and brown 2048.
2048 Desktop takes up where Gabriele Cirulli left off with his earlier version. Cirulli, a 19 year old web developer located in Italy, created this sliding block puzzle which is quite similar to an app game known as Threes! The 2048 software is created in an opensource way which allows other professional and prospective game designers to view how it works from the inside out.
There are many add-ons for 2048 Desktop, such as changing colours, adding pictures, sound effects, and more. Games very similar to Desktop 2048 include -512 where the goal is to merge positive minus numbered tiles together to reach -512 in one square. 11 requires players to merge tiles together to get to the 11th tile. Quantum 2048 merges elements, and 9007199254740992 offers a virtually endless game of 2048.
